Biking on the cliffs of Punta Giglio
From Alghero toward the peninsula of Punta Giglio. An asphalt and dirt trail of approximately 40 km snaking through Mediterranean greens and blues
A must-see on this itinerary is the barracks of Punta Giglio, the best-conserved military outpost in the area. The view spans from the bay of Porto Conte to the coastline of Capo Caccia, up to the Alghero bay. In the cliffs various species of bird make their nests, sea gulls, cormorants, small falcons and European Kestrels, and if you are lucky, you will also see a Sardinian wild boar. To get there, go approximately 80 metres on s.l.m. Punta Giglio, cross the pine forests of Punta Negra, le Bombarde (taking the enjoyable one-laner along the sea), Lazzaretto up to the Borgata di Maristella. From here, you enter the Punta Giglio pine forests, reaching an a narrow but not difficult ascent at 130 s.l.m. You then have a fun and challenging descent to a rocky bottom, until getting to the barracks. After a break, you return via another short rocky descent to be undertaken carefully. Once you have arrived at sea level, you can take in the Porto Conte Bay before going back to the city.
